Scope and content: Come West Along the Road is a popular long-running television series of Irish traditional music broadcast since 1994 by RTÉ, the Irish national broadcaster, and in its Irish-language version Siar an Bóthar since 2001 by TG4, the national Irish-language channel. The series takes its title from a well known traditional reel and is an invitation to the West, traditionally the Irish region of the past... In over 200 programmes to date, the two series have presented and contextualised discoveries from across the varied spectrum of Irish traditional music, bringing older viewers performances forgotten or never seen and introducing new generations to musicians and music of the past, and to the social and technological history inherent in the material
