Subject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: BA (Hons) in Design. Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, 2021 Summary: Spirituality in the fashion industry isn’t directly spoken about often, so the author would like to try and quantify it through the lens of creativity. It is by exploring the definition of creativity that she will try to bridge the gap between the deeply resourceful wellness and the spirit within. Just like many fashion designers, spirituality is rarely mentioned but by exploring where their creations are influenced by, the author will hopefully add a deeper meaning to their aesthetics. She wants to show how the Avant-Garde deconstructivism movement from Japan exudes spirituality in design. The deconstructive method itself expresses a deep essence of self-enquiry, one that can almost be seen as spiritual in nature. Although these designers didn’t like to claim association with their culture and rarely referenced spirituality in their designs, she wants to explore how they used their roots to push new fashion design boundaries and how their philosophies reflected a deep spiritual practice.
