Subject(s): Dissertation note: BA (Hons) in Heritage Studies. Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, 2018 Summary: This thesis set out as an investigation into the levels of knowledge regarding the banshee, fairies and leprechauns within the last three generations of Williamstown citizens. For comparison, an international perspective was included serving as an outside view. This was done through a number of interviews and surveys, the findings of which would suggest that the older generation seems to possess a superior knowledge when compared with the more youthful age groups. In addition, this thesis set out to investigate and examine the ways in which certain films depict the banshee, leprechaun and fairies. These movies were compared and contrasted with irish folklore scholarship, the results of which highlight many discrepancies in 80% of the movies analysed.
