On Easter Week 1916, against all the odds, a remarkable group of ordinary men and women from Galway began an armed revolt against British rule in Ireland. Under the leadership of Liam Mellows, they attacked the Barracks in Clarenbridge and Oranmore, and moving east they joined up with other Volunteer Companies now numbering 700 and controlled a large portion of County Galway. This is thier story of insurrection, being on the run, capture and imprisonment. Their courage and the bravery of numerous others inspired many Irish men and women in the War of Independence until freedom was won
