In this dissertation the author will investigate notable horror and thriller movies and compare the effectiveness of CGI and practical effects within the films chosen. This paper will conclude which method of delivering effects is best for a horror shock when creating monsters on the screen and discover why directors and production studios choose one over the other. The author will bring to light the disadvantages that CGI can bring into a film and investigate what makes a good movie monster. While exploring arguments on this topic the author will evaluate what kind of effects are best to use when making a successful horror film.
