The aim of this research project will be to cast a spotlight on the works of filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón and Neill Blomkamp in how they utilize and subvert the conventions of the science fiction genre in their stories to postulate a futuristic/alternate rendition of world orders that hold a mirror to our very own societal backdrops. The two films under close analysis are Cuarón’s Children of Men and Blomkamp’s District 9.
