Dan Fisher’s life is a testimony shattering the myth that people never recover from mental illness. At age 25, Dan was diagnosed with schizophrenia and hospitalized several times. Despite these setbacks, he was able to recover, earn a medical degree and become a psychiatrist. He is presently Executive Director of the National Empowerment Center and has worked as a Psychiatrist at a community mental health center for over 20 years. In this video, Dan Fisher highlights the values, philosophy and practices that have enabled him and others to recover. He knows from personal experience that there is always a person inside, capable of relating and regaining control of one’s life – if given the opportunity. The recovery model emphasizes self-determination, self-help, spirituality and finding meaning. Indeed, recovery is for everyone.
